Post Modernism

Post-Modernism is a dirrection reaction against Modernism. It is a hybrid of elements from different sources, Refusing the norm of creating design of a pure, clean and straight-forward nature. It challenges the boundarys of art and everyday life, questioning what sort of catagory it fits within.

Radio stations in the 1970s refused to play the Sex Pistols' God Save The Queen single.

The Sex Pistols... how could this be anything but Postmoderism. It's whole being breaks the boundarys of Desgn. The magazine style type, punk athestics, grainy texture mixed with un-natural colours. All combined to make a perfect Postmoderism Poster.

Anti patriotic, using the iconic Queen image as a basis to slate the crwon. Anti Orthority the basis of Punk placed on the UK flag, the imagery all conotes patrocisum, then reading the ransom note style type shows the opprsite idealogy. PLacing two oppersites together clashing meaning sums up Post Modernism.

The Colours in this design scream Post Moderism. the use of clashing bright colours resembling a tore up magazine re constructed back together. The type on the cover contradict each other, possing different connotations and ideas.

Instantly recognisable as Post Moderism, the grunge style of Graphic Design is anti athestic, work which is not nessaserily appealing to the audience. The texture becomes a large part of the design and gives the impression of a low budget and gritty subject matter.

A great example of colour used in Post Moderism, alot of different colours gathered from diffrent places in the colour spectrum. The design in its-self is full of different elliments pulled together creating a confusing array of different objects.
